NEA Grants for Arts Projects

The Office for Research and Innovation invites applications to the NEA Grants for Arts Projects program which supports activities that enable Americans throughout the nation to experience the arts, foster and celebrate America’s artistic heritage and cultural legacy, and benefit from arts education at all stages of life. Stony Brook University may submit ONE application per calendar year to the program, with limited exceptions.
Please see below for details. If you are interested in applying, you must submit a pre-application via the NEA GAP Portal in InfoReady by Friday, January 9, 2026 at 9:00 am. Pre-applications for internal review and selection must be uploaded to the portal as a single PDF document.
WHAT DOES IT FUND: Grants for Arts Projects (GAP) provides project-based funding for organizations in the areas of Arts Education, Challenge America, Dance, Design & Our Town, Folk & Traditional Arts, Literary Arts, Local Arts Agencies, Museums, Music, Opera, Presenting & Multidisciplinary Works, Theater & Musical Theater, and Visual & Media Arts.
APPLICANT REQUIREMENTS: No restrictions
AWARD: $10,000 to $100,000. All awards require a non federal cost share of at least 1 to 1. Sources may include both cash and in-kind. The NEA generally allows a period of performance of up to two years.
SPONSOR DEADLINE: February 12, 2026 (Part 1 - Submit to Grants.gov); February 18-25, 2026 (Part 2 - Submit to Applicant Portal)
A complete pre-application should comprise of the following:
- Project Description (no more than two pages): Describe the proposed arts project you would like NEA to support. Provide information on each of the following, as relevant: Specific activities that will take place during the project period; Artists, productions, performances, exhibitions, publications, and/or works of art that will be part of the project; The content and themes of activities and works of art; For project components involving creation, include information about the process to develop the new works; and related components, including engagement, outreach, or educational activities.
- Engagement with Intended Community, Participants & Audience (no more than one paragraph): Describe the intended communities, participants, or audiences involved in the project activities, and explain how you will engage these groups.
- Project Partners & Key Individuals (no more than one page): Include at least one and up to ten key individuals (e.g., staff, artists, consultants, etc.) and/or partner organizations involved in the project.
- Estimated project budget with justification (no more than one page)
