Lecturer - 10 Months

Required Qualifications

 A master's degree in Theater or a related field.  Professional theater or improvisation training, minimum of 3 years of experience teaching theater or improvisation at the college level, minimum of 5 years performance experience, experience in curriculum development.

Preferred Qualifications

MFA in Acting, Directing, or Dramaturgy, demonstrated capacity for innovation; experience working with scientists in the STEM and/or medical fields; professional (AEA) acting experience.

Responsibilities & Requirements

 The Alan Alda Center for Communicating Science is seeking a 10-month Lecturer.  The ideal candidate will have a special expertise in theater or improvisation training, experience working with scientists and medical students/professionals in improvisation, and an understanding of the cultures of science and medicine.  The successful candidate will be responsible for creation, development, implementation, and training of improvisation curriculum in the Alda Center; teaching graduate and undergraduate courses as needed; traveling 20 days/year to deliver national workshops; and participating as an instructor in relevant SBU conferences and activities.  Preferred candidates would have a background in professional theater training and practice, and significant teaching experience at the college level.

Special Notes

This is a non-tenure track position.  FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA.  Internal and external search to occur simultaneously. Anticipated Start Date: As soon as possible.
