Clinical Instructor - Nurse Practitioner

Required Qualifications

Current NYS RN license.  Master's degree in Nursing.  NYS license as an adult Nurse Practitioner or family Nurse Practitioner. 3 years oncology nursing experience.

Preferred Qualifications

AOCNP, OCN certification and 2 years of experience as an NP.

Responsibilities & Requirements

To provide on-site medical care and coverage, including assistance with procedures for the Cancer Center, both in-patient and out-patient, routine follow up, in both the clinic and in patient units, and emergency interventions under the authority of the identified supervising physician.

  • Plans, directs, coordinates and evaluates care provided to cancer survivorship patients for ongoing follow up and surveillance.
  • Appropriate history and physical examinations as needed for survivorship patients
  • Manages follow-up care within the protocols and practice privileges consistent with established policies and procedures.
  • Records and documents health appraisal data necessary to maintain, coordinate and/or expedite required services.
  • Assists in development of patient care standards/care plans related to survivorship. - Participates in quality improvement activities in order to evaluate patient outcomes.
  • Defines quality/appropriateness indicators for monitoring clinical practice.
  • Directly communicate patient's healthcare problems to other community agencies as appropriate. -   Acts as a clinical role model for staff and students.
  • Provides clinical consultation to the community regarding care of patients. - Provides clinical consultation relating to care of patients.
  • Collaborates with medical, surgical and radiation oncology physicians and other members of the healthcare team to provide care and support to survivorship patients.
  • Ensures continuity of cancer survivorship care by coordinating services, making appropriate referrals as needed.
  • Maintains clinical competency in survivorship and oncology care
  • Participates in clinical service group meetings and Cancer committee meetings
  • Assists with coverage of the ambulatory Radiation Oncology and the infusion center in collaboration with other LIP’s, when there is need.
  • Assists with the triage of patients and expedites patient facilitation to the cancer center. - Participates in the development and implementation of patient education programs.
  • Leadership: Demonstrates leadership in professional responsibilities.
  • Education-Training: Contributes to the education advancement of nurses and medical students in outpatient clinical practice setting.
  • Research: Participates in development of research studies and supports the utilization of evidence based practice in the cancer center
  • Self-Development: Maintains clinical competence in areas of specialization.
  • Community Outreach: Participates in community outreach activities as needed. 

Special Notes

This is a non-tenure track position.  FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA.  Internal and external search to occur simultaneously. Anticipated start date: As soon as possible.
